getting line numbers
Hit C-e C-l to hear the line number.
You can turn on line-number-mode if you like
--this causes emacs to display the line number in the
modeline
and it'll be spoken when you use C-e m to hear the modeline;
in general it is simply more convenient to use C-e C-l
