speeding up mp3 playback in mpg123 mode

This definitely sounds useful.

I'd suggest creating an interactive command that can scale
those variables, and bind that command to a key --perhaps
ctrl-up and ctrl-down --you'll find yourself using them much
more often once they are a single keystroke away.
