Problems with GNUS and Emacspeak

Everyone,

[Oops. Somehow my last message was MIME encoded.]

I'm having the following minor problem with GNUS and Emacspeak. When I'm in
the Group buffer and I use either the <Right Arrow> or <Space Bar> to get to
the summary buffer for a particular group, I hear a beep from the workstation
speaker.

I see the following in the *Messages* buffer:

Generating summary...
Generating summary...done
Invalid function: (macro . #[(&optional number) "ÀÁ

<Whenever I include the next two lines, my mail is MIME encoded.>

I don't see this behavior with the <=> key.

I'm running Emacs 20.2 on AIX 4.3.1. I'm at Emacspeak version 8.

Any pointers or tips would be appreciated! Thanks!
