eterm problems
I have been trying to figure out the eterm commands, with little luck.
How should I enter the eterm mode? There is no emacs command
containing the string "eterm", even with emacspeak installed. In
emacs 19.27, there are commands "term" and "terminal-emulator". Are
these the same thing? Is either the right mode for the eterm
commands? Is something else required in .emacs to enable use of the
eterm commands?
The escape key for terminal-emulator is supposed to be C-^, but
several times I got stuck in some mode where the help buffer was
displayed, the cursor was in the terminal buffer, the minibuffer
displayed "press q to exit, r to retain", but no key combination was
accepted. I had to kill the process from another virtual terminal.
This may have happened with term but not for terminal-emulator.
After M-x terminal-emulator, the initial prompt is "press C-^ C-h for
help". However, emacspeak pronounces the first key as C rather than
C-^. After pressing that key combination, a second window is opened
with help for the terminal emulator. C-n moves the cursor within the
help text. However, for each line, the only thing spoken is "Press
SPC to scroll, q to exit, r to retain". To speak the help text, it is
necessary to switch windows twice with C-x o C-^ o.
I could not get any of the eterm commands to work. I ran bash in the
window. ^e had only its normal function of sending the cursor to the
end of the line. C-^ w put the window into edit mode, where all the
normal commands worked. C-c C-c returned it to run mode.
