Re: dtk-set-rate: Process speaker not running

Hello Robert,

I am running

Emacspeak - from SVN
Emacs 22.2.1
Debian 5.0 - Lenny - Stable

I tried Voxin - and there is an incompatibility with Debian Lenny.  So I uninstalled it.

I had been loading the speakup_soft module on boot, but I commented it out in the /etc/modules file.

If any of us with to make a google document about this problem, I'd be glad to start one of those - they can be done with many people.

My problem is that I don't understand all of the language used in the READ_ME and Makefile (s) - some of it, but not all of it.

As I've said before there is a wonderful file on the Internet about installing emacspeak - but it is 2002 - that is eons ago when it comes to computers.

I'll keep on trying and reporting in.

Over and out for now.

Hello David,

The first thing you need to check is that the speech server works.
Search the archive for "process speaker not running" for more links than
you can shake a stick at.  You might also mention next time what flavor
of Linux you are using as well as the version numbers of Emacs and
emacspeak.
