new user and troubles with espeak

hello everyone,

I am a new user of emacspeak. I thought I would try it out. I use speakup and orca respectively. I have eflite working with emacspeak, but I woudl much rather have espeak. I'm sure this issue has been covered before. I tried searching through the arcives, but did not find a solution to build the espeak speech server for use with emacspeak. I use archlinux so if anyone knows what to do to use espeak successfully please help. I change to the directory /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/emacspeak/servers/linux-espeak
and issue
make -f makefile.tcl83
and I get the following errors

libtool --mode=link g++ -O2 -I/usr/include/espeak -fPIC -DPIC -I/usr/include/tcl8.3 -g -o libtclespeak.so tclespeak.lo -ltclx8.3 -L/usr/lib -lespeak -shared libtool: link: g++ -O2 -I/usr/include/espeak -fPIC -DPIC -I/usr/include/tcl8.3 -g -o libtclespeak.so .libs/tclespeak.o -ltclx8.3 -L/usr/lib -lespeak
/usr/bin/ld: cannot open output file libtclespeak.so: Permission denied
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [libtclespeak.so] Error 1

tcl8.5.7-1 and tclx8.4-1 are installed.
Emacs just seemed interesting to try out.
thanks for any help.
