installing voxin on fedora 13 x86_64

I've recently taken delivery of a DELL E4310 with Fedora 13 X86_64
installed on it. I have tried to port across the version of voxin
that's been working on my old machine (FC-10 on I686). The installer
didn't work since it seemed to need dpkg etc.

I've succeeded in compiling the "say" program after much installing of
32-bit libraries and the use of -m32. Executing it gives an
eciSynthesize error executed either as myself or as root.
This is my first experience with x86_64 so likely I'm missing
something obvious. Anyone care to put me straight?
thanks in advance
Peter
ps running strace doesn't yield anything obvious to me at least.
