Well I don't know if emacs is confused or if it is the guy who set the
thing up (me) <smile> I installed emacs as a binary package from Arch
Linux and from what I can tell, it's complete and built in pretty much
a standard way. I'll take a look at autoload sequences. Who knows,
my .emacs might even have some old deadwood that shouldn't be in there
anymore.

I did find w3 in Arch's AUR and will install that shortly; hopefully
it will say how to "get" emacs to load w3 instead of Firefox.

you definitely need a web browser, you need w3, and you need to
teach your emacs to use it. Emacs should be autoloading
outline-mode, your emacs definitely sounds confused.

Well, I'm not sure what is messed up but if I load outline-mode
explicitly first, then this error goes away. I wonder if I need to
get the daisy module to load outline-mode or something?

Once I get past that error, I can navigate up and down the contents
list like before but when I hit the enter key now, I get a message
that it is loading Firefox... but that's as far as it goes. Do I have
to setup something for headless Firefox or something? I didn't realize
that web viewing would be needed for bookshare daisy book but should I
install w3 for this all to work? The mode description for daisy make
no mention of Firefox nor w3.

Thanks for help.

outline-regexp is defined by outline-mode, so if you're getting
that error, something is really messed up in your emacs setup.

When I pull up a bookshare book with emacspeak's daisy book reader, I
get the toplevel contents OK but don't know how to nav down into the
lower sections. when I hit the enter key to open up a chapter, I get
the following error.
Symbol's value as variable is void: outline-regexp
What am I supposed to put into this variable? I see that I can
populate this variable with the 'o' command but I don't know what to
put in there. Any ideas? This book I'm trying is one of the O'reily
books from bookshare.

Thanks for any help here.
