Any idea what character is being sent to the DECtalk unit? It's hard to send
an octal 4255 through an 8-bit pipe..

In general, sending non-printable characters (in the straight ASCII sense) may
get you into trouble; some of those are used for internal control purposes. I
would definitely NOT expect a new firmware release to correct this. Most of the
screenreaders don't allow these characters to leak out the back end..
