Emacspeak and GNUS 5.8

I suspect that it is a subtle bug from interferring emacspeak and
gnus. I simply commented out almost all functionality from
emacspeak-gnus.el and gnus works as expected.
Though emacspeak still talks
"Error: invalid timer"
when pressing space in summary or article buffers.

It is not an error indeed since gnus generates it inside a form
(ignore-errors ....)

I cured this behavior by setting gnus-asynchronious to nil.
But maybe it is possible to do this by adjusting emacspeak?
