via voice documentation

I now have via voice running under the cvs version of emacspeak. I have
not been using it for very long, but I have noticed a few things that I
would like to change.

The first thing that I would like to ask about is documentation. Is
there docs on how to change things such as:

In gnus the punctuation mode gets changed every time back to all, I
think. I prefer none in this situation. Should this be set in the
gnus-article-mode-hook? I tend to read a lot of mail and such in the
article buffer, and follow links from there.

Some of the default voices are a little hard for me to get used to.
URLs read a bit too much like James Earl Jones slowed a bit.

I can see that things can be changed in the customize buffers, but I
cannot find what the code strings mean, i.e.

Voice Lock Highlight Personality: Hide Value Menu Other:

has a default of ax a7 p7 etc. What does all of this mean.

Is there an easy way to know what these mean, and the other settings
such as "family" without trial-and-error fiddling?

Is there a way to tell if I am using alsa?

I know there are a lot of questions here. Pointers to docs are always
appreciated.

Thanks,

rdc
