EMACS_UNIBYTE and installing auctex

Well, take your pick, something that will crash your tts engine,
or something that will display your fonts correctly:-)

Seriously though, many English TTS engines are not unibyte ready.

If you write Japanese and use Emacspeak, then you're probably a
user of the Bilingual Emacspeak from Japan, in which case you can
be certain that they would have configured things correctly for
you. Otherwise, the safest thing to do is not load tex-jjp.el
