w3m doesn't display in the right encoding

Dear,

When I open some brazilian web page in w3m, written in Portuguese, it 
shows strange codes in place of accented letters. I tried using the 
command C c to redisplay the page in a different charset, but no matter 
the charset I choose, it doesn't correct the letters at all.

If someone wants to test it and point me the solution I'll be grateful.
