switch-to-buffer feedback

While using emacspeak+eflite on knoppix 3.2 I've noticed that typing C-x b (switch-to-buffer command) doesn't yield a 
spoken feedback of the mode line (the text "switch to buffer: (default ....)".
Is it emacspeak default behavior or an eflite peculiarity?
Is it configurable?
